Change payment method
Store or change the payment method for your Chorilo subscription (SEPA direct debit or credit card) via the billing portal.
Diese Funktion ist nur im Web verfügbar.
What is this?
The payment method controls how Chorilo charges your choir's subscription fee. Everything runs through the Stripe billing portal, which you open from the subscription overview. There you store, change or remove cards and SEPA mandates.
Accepted methods:
- SEPA direct debit (in the SEPA area, ideal for European association accounts)
- Credit card (Visa, Mastercard, American Express)
How to change the payment method
- Open your choir and go to Administration > Subscription.
- Click "Go to billing portal". The Stripe portal opens in a new tab.
- In the portal choose the "Payment methods" section.
- Add a new method — card or SEPA IBAN.
- Confirm the setup (card: possibly 3D-Secure / SCA; SEPA: mandate confirmation).
- Mark the new method as default, if desired.
Changes take effect immediately — the next charge runs through the new default method.
What you can do in the billing portal
- Add / replace a card (e.g. after expiry)
- Add SEPA mandate with IBAN entry
- Set default method (charged first)
- Remove old methods
- Adjust billing address
What happens if a payment fails
If a charge fails (e.g. expired card, insufficient funds):
- You receive an email notification from Stripe and Chorilo.
- Automatic retries are started over several days (Stripe Smart Retries).
- Dunning after several failed attempts.
- Subscription is suspended if payment permanently fails — the subscription ends, the choir switches to read-only mode after expiry until a valid payment is restored.
Security
- Stripe is PCI-DSS Level 1 certified — the highest security standard in payments.
- Token-based storage: Chorilo never sees or stores the full card number or IBAN.
- 3D-Secure / SCA: strong customer authentication per PSD2 for cards.
- TLS encryption throughout the input flow directly to Stripe.
Permission
You need the ensemble.edit permission to manage payment methods. By default the owner and choir director have this access. Note: stored payment methods can incur costs — clarify responsibility within the board.
Tips
- SEPA direct debit is usually the easiest method for European associations — no card expiry issues, direct link to the association account.
- Update in time before card expiry — Stripe automatically sends a reminder shortly before the card expires.
- For association cards: check whether the card supports 3D-Secure — some association accounts have restrictions.
- Board change: when the association switches banks, update the stored SEPA IBAN in time to avoid dunning.
