What is this?

With the custom domain you link your own internet address — for example www.my-choir.com or choir-anytown.com — to your Chorilo website. Instead of the default subdomain my-choir.chorilo.app your website is then reachable under your professional, memorable address.

Advantages:

  • Professional appearance with your own domain
  • SEO benefits through an independent domain
  • Better recognition in print and advertising
  • Email consistency when you have your own email addresses under the same domain
  • SSL certificate included (https) — automatically renewed

How to connect a domain

  1. Open your choir and go to Administration > Public website > Domain.
  2. Click "Add custom domain".
  3. Enter your domain (e.g. www.my-choir.com).
  4. Chorilo shows you DNS entries that you have to set at your domain provider.
  5. Sign in at your domain provider (e.g. GoDaddy, Cloudflare, Namecheap, Google Domains).
  6. Set the DNS entries as shown (CNAME or A record and possibly AAAA record).
  7. Wait 5 minutes to 24 hours until the DNS changes take effect.
  8. Chorilo checks automatically and provisions the SSL certificate.
  9. Your website is live under your own domain.

DNS entries in detail

You usually need:

  • For a subdomain like www.my-choir.com: a CNAME entry to the Chorilo hostname.
  • For an apex domain like my-choir.com: an A record and an AAAA record to the IP addresses Chorilo provides.

The exact values are shown by Chorilo after you add the domain — please copy them exactly, otherwise the link does not work.

SSL certificate

As soon as the DNS entries are correct:

  • Let''s Encrypt certificate is automatically requested and installed.
  • Renewal happens automatically every 90 days.
  • Browser padlock shows a secure connection.
  • Mixed content warnings are avoided — Chorilo loads all content over https.

Permission

You need the permission ensemble.edit to connect a custom domain. By default the owner and choir director have this access. The custom domain feature is included at no extra cost in every Chorilo plan (monthly or annual) — you only have to book the domain itself with a registrar of your choice.

Tips

  • Choose a short, memorable domainchoir-anytown.com is better than mgv-1875-evangelical-anytown.com.
  • Also secure similar spellings (e.g. with and without hyphen) and forward them to the main domain.
  • Plan the migration carefully when moving from an old website — make backups beforehand, submit the new sitemap to search engines.
  • For DNS issues: tools like dig or online DNS checkers help check the configuration. When in doubt, contact your domain provider''s support.
  • Keep the subdomain my-choir.chorilo.app active — it continues to work and can serve as a fallback.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need technical knowledge?
A little. You have to adjust two DNS entries at your domain provider — Chorilo shows the exact values after adding the domain. Guides for common providers are linked.
Do I get an SSL certificate (https)?
Yes. Chorilo automatically obtains an SSL certificate via Let''s Encrypt as soon as the DNS entries are set. It is also automatically renewed — you do not have to take care of anything.
Can I keep my existing website?
When you point your domain to the Chorilo website, the old website will no longer be reachable. Recommendation: migrate content to Chorilo beforehand or use a subdomain (e.g. new.my-choir.com).
