What is this?
When you delete a file in the choir file area, it is not removed immediately. It moves to the trash, stays there for 7 days and can be restored with one click. Only after that period does an automatic cleanup permanently remove the file.
This protects you from instant loss after an accidental delete. The version history of the file is also kept during that window — restore brings the full history back.
How to use the trash
- Open your choir and go to Management > Files.
- Click Trash in the top right.
- You see all files deleted in the last 7 days — with deletion date and scheduled purge date.
- Click Restore next to the file you want back. It reappears in the regular file view immediately.
Permission
- View trash: files.view (for the relevant folder)
- Restore a file: files.edit
Tips
- Check the trash first before re-uploading a file you thought was gone — saves storage and sync traffic on bigger files.
- A moved file is not deleted. If someone moved a file into a folder you can't see, that's a permissions question, not a deletion.
- Permanent deletion happens automatically at night — if you need to know whether a file is truly gone, wait until after the cleanup or contact support.
Frequently asked questions
How long can a deleted file be restored?▾
Exactly 7 days from deletion. After that the file is permanently and irrevocably removed from storage.
Are the versions of a deleted file also restored?▾
Yes. As long as the file sits in the trash, its versions are kept. On restore the full version history is back.
Can I purge a file before the 7 days are up?▾
Not via the UI right now — the cleanup job runs nightly and removes anything deleted more than 7 days ago.
Who can see the trash and restore files?▾
Anyone with files.view on the folder sees the trash. Restoring requires files.edit — the same permission as uploading or editing.
Does this work in the mobile app?▾
Not currently. The trash is only reachable from the WebApp.
