What is this?

The singer history documents which choirs a member was active in before joining your choir. It is the basis for anniversary honors — because most associations do not count membership in the current choir but the total duration as an active choir member.

Example:

  • Maria has sung in Liederkranz Anytown since 2002 (12 years)
  • In 2014 she switched to Cäcilienchor (8 years)
  • In 2022 she joined your choir (3 years)
  • Total 23 years — she is on the way to the 25-year honor badge in 2027.

Without singer history Chorilo would only see the 3 years in your choir — the honor would be a surprise in early 2050.

How to maintain the singer history

  1. Open your choir and go to Members.
  2. Click the member and then "Edit".
  3. Switch to the "Singer history" tab.
  4. Add a previous choir: name of the choir, join date, leave date, optionally voice and role.
  5. Add further stations if the member was in multiple choirs.
  6. Save the changes. The total singer years are calculated automatically.

What the history contains

Per previous choir you maintain:

  • Name of the choir
  • Location (optional)
  • Choir association (optional)
  • Join date and leave date
  • Voice in this choir
  • Role (e.g. music librarian, board)
  • Notes (optional, e.g. "switch due to relocation")

Anniversary calculation

Chorilo calculates from all stations plus the entry to your choir the total singer years. Gaps between choirs (e.g. singing pause) are not counted — only active membership time.

Upcoming anniversaries appear automatically in:

  • Dashboard widget "Anniversaries"
  • Anniversaries export (for the board)
  • Anniversary reports of the choir association (if linked)

Permission

You need the permission members.edit to maintain other members'' singer history. Members can maintain their own history without this permission.

Tips

  • Ask new members on joining about their singer history — best as a required field on the join form. Later it is rework.
  • Check the data regularly — for long-time members memory gaps can occur. A short query in the board saves later embarrassments at anniversaries.
  • Also enter short stations (e.g. school choir, student choir) — they count toward total duration and round out the picture.
  • For re-entry after a break: enter the break as a "gap" by cleanly recording the leave date and new join date. That way the break does not count.

Frequently asked questions

What do I need the singer history for?
Mainly for anniversary honors. Whoever has sung for 25 years — no matter in how many choirs — often gets an honor badge in the association. Without previous choirs, Chorilo would only count the entry into your choir.
Can the member maintain their history themselves?
Yes. In their own profile members can enter their previous choirs themselves. You as choir director can additionally check and supplement the data.
Are choir association data automatically included?
When your choir is linked to a choir association and the member has a history there, the association can partially import its records. Maintenance stays primarily with you though.
