What is this?

With Search user you start a new chat with a member of your ensemble. Via the search function you find the member by name, voice or role and open the chat directly. If a chat already exists, the existing history opens — duplicate chats are avoided.

How to search a member

  1. Open the chats overview in the main menu or the Chat tab.
  2. Tap "New chat" (plus icon or button at the top right).
  3. Enter the name in the search field — after the first letters matching members are suggested.
  4. Filter optionally by voice or role to narrow the list.
  5. Tap the desired member to open the chat.

As soon as you tap a member, you can immediately write the first message — the chat is created automatically when sending.

Permission

You need the permission chat.create to start a new chat. By default all members have this. It can be restricted via permission groups for individual groups.

Tips

  • Use filters in larger ensembles to quickly find the right contact — e.g. "all soprano section leaders" or "all board members".
  • Existing chats you recognize in the overview. If the name already appears there, you do not need to search a new chat — just open the existing one.
  • For group communication a group chat is often more practical than several individual 1:1 chats — e.g. for section leaders or a working group.

Frequently asked questions

Which members can I message?
You can message all active members of your ensemble. Members who have blocked you do not appear in the search. External people without a Chorilo account cannot be messaged directly.
What happens if I open a chat that already exists?
If you have already messaged the member before, the existing chat history opens automatically — no new chat is created.
Can I also filter by voice or role?
Yes. In the search you can filter not only by name but also by voice (e.g. soprano) or role (e.g. section leader) to quickly find the right contact.
