What is this?
With Mute you suppress the push notifications for an individual chat. The chat stays in your overview and you keep receiving all messages — you are just no longer interrupted by push hints or sounds. Useful in group chats with lots of activity that only marginally concern you.
How to mute a chat
- Open the chat you want to mute.
- Tap the menu at the top right (three dots or gear icon).
- Choose Mute from the menu.
- Confirm the choice — the chat is muted immediately.
In the overview you recognize muted chats by a small bell icon with a slash. To lift the mute, follow the same path and choose Unmute.
Permission
You need the permission chat.view to mute chats. By default all members have this.
Tips
- Mute active group chats with lots of discussion that you only want to check occasionally. That keeps your lock screen tidy.
- Leave important 1:1 chats with the choir director or section leader active so you do not miss important messages.
- If a chat permanently bothers you and you no longer want to participate, leaving or deleting is the better choice.
- In the general settings you can also disable push notifications for ALL chats globally — e.g. at night or on weekends.
