Create group chat

What is this?

With Create group chat you set up a new chat for several members. Unlike a 1:1 chat a group chat has a name, optionally a profile picture and one or more admins who can manage participants and settings.

Typical use cases:

• Voice section — soprano, alto, tenor or bass for internal coordination
• Board — short paths for organizational topics
• Project group — e.g. preparation for a specific concert
• Section leader round — quick coordination between section leaders

How to create a group chat

1. Open the chats overview in the main menu or the Chat tab.
2. Tap "New group chat" (plus icon or button at the top right).
3. Give it a group name, e.g. "Soprano group" or "Board 2026".
4. Upload a profile picture (optional) — e.g. the voice section logo or a group photo.
5. Choose the participants from the member list — quickly filterable by voice or role via search.
6. Save the group chat. All added members immediately receive a push notification.

As the creator you are automatically the first admin of the group and can appoint additional admins.

Permission

You need the permission chat.create to create new group chats. By default all members have this. It can be restricted via permission groups for individual groups.

Tips

• Use a clear name that immediately reveals the purpose of the group — e.g. "Concert prep May" rather than just "Concert".
• Keep groups small and topic-focused. A huge group with all members is usually less useful than several small targeted groups.
• Grant admin rights to at least one other person, in case you are not reachable.
• For official announcements to the whole ensemble use the notifications — there you also see who has read.
