Send message
Write a message to a member or a group — directly from the chat, with text, attachments, emojis and automatic push notification.
What is this?
With Send message you write a new message in an open chat to your counterpart (1:1) or to all participants of a group. Messages are delivered in real time and automatically trigger a push notification at the recipient, provided they have not muted the chat.
How to send a message
- Open the chat with the desired member or group.
- Tap into the input field at the bottom of the chat.
- Write your text — emojis are available via the smiley icon, attachments via the plus or paperclip icon.
- Tap Send (paper plane icon) or press Enter in the web version.
The message appears immediately in the history and is marked with a checkmark as sent. As soon as the recipient opens the chat and reads the message, the checkmark turns blue (read receipt).
What you can attach
- Images (JPG, PNG, HEIC) — shown as preview in the chat
- PDF documents — recipients can open directly in chat
- Any file — up to the upload size limit of your plan
- Emojis — via the smiley icon in the input field
Permission
You need the permission chat.create to send messages. By default all members have this. It can be restricted via permission groups under Administration > Permission groups for individual groups.
Tips
- Keep messages short and concrete. For longer content or official announcements to the whole ensemble use the notifications.
- Use reactions instead of a short reply like "Okay" or "Thanks" — that saves everyone in the group chat unnecessary notifications.
- Avoid sensitive content like bank data or passwords in chat. Use secure transfer paths for that.
- For important messages to many members rather use a notification — there you see who has read.
