Group chat profile picture

What is this?

With a profile picture for your group chat you make the group recognizable at a glance in the chats overview. Instead of a generic symbol all participants see a fitting image — e.g. the voice section logo, a group photo from the last concert or a symbol that represents the group's purpose well.

How to upload a profile picture

1. Open the group chat in the web version.
2. Click the group name or symbol at the top of the chat to open group settings.
3. Click the profile picture or the Change profile picture button.
4. Choose an image file from your device (JPG, PNG, HEIC).
5. Crop the area (optional) and confirm.

The new profile picture appears immediately for all participants — both in the web version and in the mobile app.

Remove profile picture

To remove the picture again, choose Delete profile picture in the group settings. The group then shows the default symbol again.

Permission

You need the permission chat.create and must be admin of the group chat to change the profile picture. Regular participants see the picture but cannot edit it.

Tips

• Choose a square image with good resolution (at least 400x400 pixels) for a sharp display in the app.
• Avoid small details in the picture — the profile picture is shown very small in the overview.
• Mind image rights when using photos with recognizable people. If in doubt, get consent from the depicted members.
