What is this?

Many pieces exist in several editions: with or without piano accompaniment, a tone higher or lower, as a full score or a single voice part. Instead of creating a separate entry for each edition, you upload them as versions of one and the same piece. Your sheet music list keeps a single entry — containing all PDF editions.

Each version has its own name (e.g. "With piano"), and one version is the default version: it opens first whenever someone views the piece.

How to add a version

  1. Open the piece in the sheet music overview and click Edit.
  2. In the PDF versions section you'll see the existing editions as tabs.
  3. Click + Version.
  4. Enter a name that describes the edition — such as "Without piano" or "One tone higher".
  5. Choose the PDF file and click Upload version.

The new version appears immediately as its own tab. Via the tabs you can rename any edition, replace its file, or delete it.

Setting the default version

The default version is the edition that opens first — in the browser and in the app. You can recognise it by the star on its tab.

  1. In the PDF versions section, select the tab of the edition you want.
  2. Click Set as default.

Switching versions while viewing

  • In the browser: Open the piece. If there are several versions, you'll find a selector above the PDF preview to switch editions. The download button always fetches the currently selected edition.
  • In the app: Open the piece and tap the title at the top. If there are several versions, a picker opens — tap the edition you want. With only one version, you simply see the title as usual.

Annotations per version

Your personal markings, breath marks and notes always belong to exactly the version you drew them in. When you switch editions, you see that edition's annotations. Your markings always match the printed music — even if the editions have a different number of pages.

Good to know

  • When replacing a version's PDF, you decide whether members' annotations for that edition are kept or deleted.
  • Audio files, tags and event links belong to the piece, not to a single version — they apply to all editions.
  • If you delete the default version, the next edition automatically becomes the default.

Frequently asked questions

Are my annotations kept when I add a new version?
Yes. Each version has its own annotations. Whatever you marked in one edition stays there — a new version starts without any markings.
What happens to annotations when I delete a version?
Deleting a version also removes all members' annotations for that specific edition. Markings in the remaining versions are untouched. Chorilo asks for confirmation before deleting.
How many versions can I create?
There is no fixed limit. The files count towards your choir's storage space just like any other sheet music PDF.
Can all members see all versions?
Yes. Anyone who can open the piece can also switch between its versions. The default version always opens first.
