What is this?

With Edit sheet music you change the master data and assignments of a piece — e.g. title, composer, category, voices, tags or folder. Swapping the PDF file is also possible here when you want to upload a better version or a corrected edition.

All changes are immediately visible to all members. So the music library always stays current.

How to edit a piece

  1. Open the piece through the sheet music overview.
  2. Click Edit at the top right of the detail page.
  3. Adjust the fields you want to change:
    • Title and composer
    • Category (folk song, pop, classical, sacred, original composition, ...)
    • Voices (soprano, alto, tenor, bass, mixed or custom voicing)
    • Tags for cross-search
    • Folder the piece is in
    • License information, if protected
  4. Optionally swap the file through the upload area.
  5. Save the changes. The new version is available immediately.

What else you can adjust

  • Description of the piece — e.g. a short note on the arrangement, history or rehearsal
  • Participating voices in detail when the piece is for a partial voicing
  • Difficulty level to give members an estimate
  • Language of the piece for search and filter
  • Sort order in the concert program if you structure programs

Permission

To edit you need the sheet_music.edit permission. By default choir directors, the board and music librarians have this permission. Members without it can view but not change the piece.

Tips

  • Keep title and composer consistent so pieces by the same composer can be found together — better "Bach, J. S." than sometimes "Bach" and sometimes "Johann Sebastian Bach".
  • Maintain tags consistently: a new tag is invented quickly, but too many different spellings make searching harder.
  • Use the description for internal notes — e.g. tempo hints, breath spots or special practice sections.
  • On file swap, briefly check that marks still fit. Otherwise announce so members can react in time.

Frequently asked questions

Can I also swap the PDF file itself?
Yes. The edit area has an upload section to upload a new version of the file. The old file is replaced; your marks remain as long as the page count stays the same.
What happens to other members' marks when I make changes?
Personal marks always stay with the respective member. If you swap the PDF file and the page count changes, marks may have to be set again.
Can multiple pieces be edited at the same time?
For tags and folder assignment, yes: in the overview you can mark multiple pieces and tag or move them together. Title, composer and file content are edited individually.
