What is this?

With the pen tool in the PDF viewer you draw directly on the sheet music — breath marks, slurs, fingering, reminder notes. Everything you would otherwise write into your paper score with a pencil works digitally in the app.

Tool options

Color — black, red, blue, green, yellow (for different voices or meanings)
Stroke width — thin (notes), medium (default), thick (marks)
Erase — remove faulty annotations selectively or whole areas
Arrow tool — mark repeats, jumps
Text tool — write short notes (e.g. "softer", "ritardando")

How to draw

Open a piece in the Sheet music tab
Tap the PDF for the full-screen preview
Tap the pen icon in the toolbar
Choose color and stroke width
Draw with finger or pencil directly on the PDF
Annotations are saved automatically — no "Save" button needed

Export annotations

If you need your annotations outside Chorilo (print, backup, another app):

In the web: open the piece > PDF preview > Download "PDF with marks"
In the app: open the PDF > share icon > With annotations

Tips

Consistent colors — e.g. red for breath marks, blue for dynamics. Helps with quick reading
Draw sparingly — overloaded scores are harder to read
Check annotations before concerts — sometimes the original PDF is clearer
Apple Pencil is worth it if you draw a lot — more precise and natural than a finger

Every member with sheet_music.view can draw. Annotations are personal and not shared.

Frequently asked questions

Are the annotations shared with others?▾

No. Annotations are personal by default. Other members draw their own — nobody sees your marks.

Can I see the annotations in the web?▾

No. The web only shows the original PDF. If you want to export your annotations, download the PDF with marks (see Sheet music section).

What happens to my annotations when the piece is deleted?▾

They are deleted with it. Download the PDF with marks beforehand if you want to keep them.

Apple Pencil or finger?▾

Both work. With an Apple Pencil or stylus it is more precise; with a finger it is enough for breath marks and simple marks.
