What is this?

A reaction is a short feedback on a notification — similar to WhatsApp or Slack. Instead of writing a whole comment, you express what you think with an emoji: thumbs up for agreement, heart for "love it", smiling face for "found it funny" and so on.

Reactions are perfect when you want to show the author you have seen the notification and like it without flooding the discussion with "Thanks!" comments.

How to react to a notification

  1. Open the notification through the notifications overview.
  2. Tap or click the emoji icon under the notification — usually a smiley or plus icon with emojis.
  3. Pick the right emoji from the selection.
  4. Your reaction appears immediately under the notification. Other members see the emoji and the count.
  5. Tap the same emoji again to take back your reaction.

What reactions do

Reactions are a quieter signal than comments:

  • No push notification — the author is not actively informed
  • No email — reactions also do not appear in the digest mail
  • Visible immediately — all members who open the notification see count and emojis
  • List of reactors — tapping the emoji shows the names of all members who reacted that way

So the author knows their notification was noticed without constantly receiving push messages.

Permission

You need the notifications.view permission to react to notifications. It is assigned by default to all active members. If you can see a notification, you can also react to it.

Tips

  • React instead of commenting when you only want to say "thanks" or "great!" — that keeps the discussion tidy.
  • Use different emojis deliberately — thumbs up means agreement, heart expresses more enthusiasm.
  • Switch your reaction when your opinion changes — you can pick a different emoji any time.
  • Look at the list of reactors to see who has already agreed — that helps with informal votes.

Frequently asked questions

Does the author get a notification about my reaction?
Reactions do not trigger a push notification or an email. The author still sees your reaction whenever they open the notification — that way it stays low-friction.
Can I take back my reaction?
Yes. Just tap or click the same emoji again, then your reaction is removed. You can also switch by picking another emoji.
Do other members see who reacted?
Yes. When you tap the emoji icon under the notification you see the list of all members who reacted with that emoji.
Which emojis are available?
You have a selection of common emojis: thumbs up, heart, smiling face, surprised face, sad face and a few more. So you can express your mood with one click.
